Allegiance is a real time strategy game created by Microsoft. It is set in the year 2150 and an asteroid has destroyed the earth. Four factions named Bios, Belters, GigaCorp and the Iron Coalition seek to establish life on the stars. The game was released in 2000 and is free of cost. It can be played on all Windows based systems with a Pentium Processor, 32 MB RAM, 270 MB free space and a soundcard that is DirectX compatible.

Fracas is another Freeware Strategy Game. It is similar to Risk (a board game). In this game the players can create and edit their own maps. The features of the land can be specified by the player and the winner is the player who succeeds in destroying all the other towns controlled by the other competitors. Six players can play the game at the same time using LAN (Local Area Network). Three modes of gameplay exist: Reinforcement, Action and Tactical Movement.

Gate88 is a multiplayer Freeware Strategy Game that can be played on Mac OS X, Linux and Windows platforms. The game has both single player and multiplayer modes. It is available as a free download as well.

The Russian company NewGame Software developed General, a Freeware Strategy Game that is turn based, has hot seat (stressful situation), single player and multi-player modes.

Savage: The Battle for Newerth is a real time role playing strategy game that is available as freeware as well. Other notable Freeware Strategy Games are Spring Project, Star Wars Tactics and Steel Panthers: World at War.
