Consider Online Backup Services

14 July 2009 No Comment

Having a local back to your external and/or optical drivers is becoming more and more popular in the technological world. Nonetheless, it is not a magic wall, and is not always completely guaranteed to protect your data. Then again, nothing is completely safe from intruders in the large online world, but most companies offering online back up services do their best to ensure satisfaction. Close to a year ago, the director of a large company had his computers and backup device stolen. On the back up device was more than a decades worth of information, including articles, family photographs, and financial information. In a more extreme scenario, a natural disaster could completely whip out your PC, and there goes all your personal information, photos, and other precious media. A practice some people use to back up their most important files is to use an external hard drive. They load the external hard drive with their most important data and such, and have the hard drive put in a safe. Obviously, this is a lot of trouble to go through, and updating the hard drive would be a hassle. You would have to take it out of the safe, and if the same is not at your residence, this is even more of a hassle. The best, most effective way to keep a back up of all your important information and data is with an online backup service through a specialized company. Many large companies are turning to these online backup companies to “guard” their most valuable information and data.

Online back up services are not expensive at all, and prices start as low as a couple dollars a month. As you require more room to store data, the price will increase. The online back up companies are advanced enough to ensure that your PC or Internet will not be slowed down at all. The only part that may slow down your PC and connection performance is when your data is being uploaded. This is not uncommon, and you will experience this with any online back up company. You data will be encrypted completely prior to being sent, when it is being sent, and after is sent by some of the most powerful servers around. Most companies offering this service work on a “cycle system” in which your files will automatically be uploaded when there is room available on the uploading servers.

Though there are many online back up services from different companies, and all of them keep your data safely in a remote server, each company has certain differences. Some companies are much easier to setup, while some make the process of choosing which data you would like to back up much easier. Some companies specialize in retrieving files if they are lost. There are companies that give good service all around for those three factors though, and these companies are widely used by large corporations. If you have important data on your PC, do not assume it is safe. Look into an online back up company, because without one, your data is at risk.
